PackFlash, a vendor of  premium DotNetNuke modules, has just released a new version of its DNN News & Blog module.  This DotNetNuke module is a solution for providing press releases, blogs, and articles within sites built using the DotNetNuke platform. PackFlash doesn’t sit still:  the company is always adding new features and improvements to their modules.  So it should come as no surprise that shortly after DotNetNuke released version 6.2, which contains entirely new functionality related to social networking within the WCMS, that PackFlash released an upgrade to their product line which provides integration points to these new social features.

The DotNetNuke News & Blog module is a big part of the Constellation family from PackFlash which consists of eight closely integrated DNN modules. The News & Blog module can be bought individually, or as a part of the Constellation Suite.  When the whole Constellation Suite is in use, a site’s content administrators have unparalleled capability to publish and manage a huge variety of content in a very sophisticated manner.. The complete Constellation Suite includes the following DNN modules: Video, Image Gallery, Slideshow, News & Blog, Friendly URLs, Mega Drop-Down Menu, Comment and Events Module for DotNetNuke.

The News & Blog’s purpose within Constellation is to provide content administration for news articles, press releases, blogs, whitepapers, case studies, and pretty much any other type of predominantly text-based content.. This DNN module has robust classification functionality that lets administrators easily group and re-purpose content according to a variety of different needs.

With version 3.3, the News & Blog module has been updated to include integration with DNN’s new social features.  The integration allows content creators (for instance, bloggers) to publish announcements about new content to their “journal” feeds, or to the feeds of any social groups to which they belong.  These announcement postings are coordinated with the publication date of the content and the author has complete control over both the content of the message, and who gets to see the announcement.

Other new features found within the latest version of the PackFlash Constellation Suite include social integration for the Comments and Ratings module, a new ability for users to create content “collections” of different types of  content, and new template capabilities that allow for the display of tooltips that provide more information about a piece of content when it is displayed within a list.
